Gpt up to the cabin early Friday around 4 and decided to go out in hunt of some crappies. I figured it would be the perfect weekend assuming water temps would be in the 60's. I assumed wrong... Couldnt see any crappies off the dock where they were the previous week for prespawn so I took the water temp which read anywhere from 55 to 58 degrees. Some scattered lily pads were starting to pop up and fish were moving into shallow warming bays. All night Friday I casted around a bobber and custom jig with a minnow with no major results other than a few sunfish here and there. Frustrated I tryed a few more spots with no luck and called it a night. 9 am the next morning I headed back out. This time I had a change of plans due to little to no crappie activity. I started in the main shallow bay of our lake casting throughout with a spinnerbait. I tagged into a few small bass but nothing really big. Later on around noon I had a lot of 12" bass and 1 small northern. I knew the bigger bass were in the lake so I headed out to some deeper cabbage beds in search of them. I casted these beds slow rolling the spinnerbait atop the weeds and suddenly as I was pulling my lure out of the water a bass comes jumping after it. She grabbed the lure and dove deep. After a few minutes I had a 18"er in the boat. I kept on casting around getting a few more nicer fish then called it a day as I headed in for dinner. Sunday I was on a mission for a few nicer gills. I found the edge of a shallow weedy flat and threw out the anchor. Immediately on one of my first casts the bobber sliped undewr the surface and I had myself a nice chunky 8"er. I thought of keeping a few but I knew we wopuld be leaving that day and didnt feel a huge desire to keep her. I brought in numerous 7-8"ers that day with a few pushing te 8" mark. After a while I decided to finish the day off with a few more bass. I pulled up to some piles of lily pad roots sticking out of the water and proceeded to cast around them. I pulled 3 bass off one pile and a few more off the others but all fish were relatively small once again. After a few more fish I was satisfied and ready for some burgers back at the ranch.
